Anthony Francis Mercurio was born on September 27, 1929, to Mary & Giacomo (Jack) Mercurio in Detroit, Michigan. Tony, as he was fondly called by his family and friends, moved with his family to Dearborn, Michigan a few years later. He attended St. Alphonsus School and graduated in 1948. During high school, Tony was active in the Marine Reserve and later enlisted in the US Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1955. Tony Received a degree in finance and accounting from the University of Detroit in 1953. He married Joanne Tessier later that year on September 12th, 1953. They resided in Dearborn and had four children together. After being discharged from the Army, Tony worked alongside his father, Jack and brother Joe, at Mercurio Bros. Bananas also known as the” Banana House”. Later in 1974, his son, John, joined them. Tony had many hobbies, a few of them being gardening, building, and metal detecting. He could be seen with his metal detector combing parks and beaches for lost treasures. He also enjoyed building projects and, eventually, built the family cottage in Belle River, Ontario. Tony is predeceased by his former wife, Joanne, son, John, and sister, Carmela. He is survived by his children, Mary Anne (Michael) Holly, Grace (Kenneth) Branchick, Rose (Robert) Pazdernik, his grandchildren, Yvette, Kyle, Michael, Lisa and Kari, his great-grandson, Jack, and his brother, Joseph (Dolores). Visitation Saturday 9:00-10:00 am at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 W. Warren, Dearborn Heights. Funeral Mass Saturday 11:00 am at St. Alphonsus-St. Clement Parish. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Tony’s name to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
