Charles "Charlie" Edward Keller

April 1, 1935 — November 4, 2023

Charles Keller Tribute Video Charles Edward Keller passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on November 4, 2023. He was born on April 1, 1935, to Edward and Agnes Keller (née Preisser) in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, and later moved to Michigan with his family, settling in River Rouge. In his youth, Charlie found his passion for music in the River Rouge High School marching and concert bands. Little did he know that this shared interest in music would lead to a lifelong love story. It was in the midst of band practices and performances that he met his future wife, Barbara. Their connection grew stronger over the years, and on August 15, 1959, they exchanged their vows, embarking on a journey that would last for 64 years, a testament to their enduring love. Nothing was more important to Charlie than his family. He was happiest when sharing time with his loved ones; holidays, family dinners, vacations, or helping with home projects, it all brought him joy. He often said that it didn’t matter what the occasion was, “as long as we are together.” He looked forward to the annual long-weekend family vacations to Cedar Point. Charlie rode many of the rides, enjoyed time on the beach of Lake Erie, and made a sport of people watching from the screened porch of his hotel suite. Charlie was known for his sense of humor. He had a quick wit and an endless supply of “dad jokes.” He and his wife, Barbara would often playfully jab each other with sarcasm, a trait that has been passed on to his children and grandchildren. Throughout his professional life, Charlie dedicated 42 years of service to Detroit Edison, where he held the role of shift supervisor. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors alike. Apart from his dedication to family and work, Charlie had a deep love for University of Michigan football. He shared countless cherished memories while cheering on the Wolverines, in person at the “Big House” with his late brother, Tom. They even made a trip to the Rose Bowl together. These moments of camaraderie and shared enthusiasm created lasting bonds and unforgettable experiences. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, who stood by his side for over six decades. He is also survived by his daughters, Kathleen (John) Dombrowski and Mary, and was preceded in death by his son, Paul. Charlie will be forever cherished as "Poppy" by his grandchildren: Stephanie (Matt), Matthew (Danielle), Kaila, A.J. (Sarah), Niko (Bella), and Cortez. His legacy lives on through his great-grandchildren: Miles, Aaliyah, Lily, Jeremy, Ava, Kai, Ethan, T.J., and Grace. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the visitation, which will be held on Thursday, November 9, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, located at 25509 W. Warren in Dearborn Heights. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, November 10, at 11:00 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
