Daniel Jerome Zak, Sr., born on September 6, 1938, to Theodore and Helen Zak in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Daniel was a man of immense talents and determination, often described as a jack of all trades. A skilled mechanic, woodworker and handyman, there was nothing he couldn’t fix. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping his father build their family’s second home Up North. He also had a passion for restoring vintage automobiles, pouring his heart and skill into breathing new life into classic vehicles. His woodworking skills were enjoyed by many who admired his hand made deer, moose, benches, swings and tables.

Daniel loved to entertain and cook for his family and friends.  He was known by everyone for his famous ham and sauerkraut recipes.

A lover of excitement, Daniel enjoyed visiting his favorite casinos—Hollywood Casino, FireKeepers, and Soaring Eagle—where he found joy playing the slots along with his wife, brother Eugene and Ruth. He was a social man, making friends wherever he went, and was deeply cherished by all who knew him. Always carrying his harmonica, Daniel loved entertaining others with his music, bringing smiles to countless faces. His favorite, “you are my sunshine,” was beloved by all, especially his wife and daughters. He was a man of good humor and always had a joke or two to share to make others laugh and lift their spirits.

Most importantly, Daniel was a kindhearted man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone . He loved his children, his family and was much in love with his wife Mary Ann.

Daniel was the beloved husband of Mary Ann and the dearest father of Daniel Zak, Laura Zak, Sue Kuebler Zak (Mike Dickinson), and his late son, Michael Zak as well as his late son-in-law, Jimmy Kuebler and former son-in-law, Joe Kidd.  He was a cherished brother to Doloris  Zak, Eugene Zak (Ruth), the late Joan West (the late Bob), and the late Leonard Zak (the late Mary). Daniel also leaves behind loving nieces, nephews, and their children.  He was a dear stepfather to Bob Promo (Rosanne) and Ron Promo (Mary), as well as a kindly step-grandfather to their children and grandchildren.
