DANIEL JOSEPH O’CONNOR September 1, 1945 - January 19, 2023 Daniel Joseph O’Connor passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the age of 77. Dan was born on September 1, 1945, to Clair and Eleanor O’Connor in Dearborn, MI. He attended St.Sebastian Catholic School, Lowery High School, and Henry Ford Community College. After high school, he served our country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. After completing his time with the Army, he worked at Detroit Edison in various roles, eventually becoming a supervisor. On January 11, 1969, he married the love of his life, Linda (nee Ferla), and were married for 54 beautiful years. Together, Dan and Linda were blessed with 3 children, whom they adored and cherished. They were also blessed with 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter-they fill their lives with many activities and joy. Faith and family were paramount in Dan’s life. Dan was extremely active at St. Sebastian Parish including roles as a Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Parish Council member, Festival Chairperson, Religious Education teacher, taking Communion to the sick and leading the Rosary during wake services. He was also involved in coaching numerous sports, not only helping kids learn the games but making a lasting impact on their lives. His dedication led him to several years of service as booster club president and over 50 years of coaching. He received the CYO James Coughlin award in 1998 and also the National Catholic Educational award In 2013. Dan was also involved in the Fr. Patrick O’Kelley Knights of Columbus Council 3860, Goodfellows, and St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center. Dan loved spending time with his family because they were his pride and joy. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and those who loved him. Beloved husband of Linda. Dearest father of Colleen, Keith (Christy), and Holly (Kevin) Smigielski. Cherished Papa of Patrick (Lilly), Liam (Clara), Colin, Clare (Jordan), Daniel, Riley, Megan, Alaina, Brianna (Rene), Olivia, Sean, and Molly. Loving great-grandpa of Oakley. Dear brother of James (Joyce), Michael (Diane), Maryann (Rick) Shue, the late John (the late Antoinette), and the late Terrence. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation Monday 4-8 pm and Tuesday 1-8 pm with a Rosary at 6:00 pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 W. Warren, Dearborn Heights. Instate Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Maria Goretti Church, 3997 Merrick St, Dearborn Heights, until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dan’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Smile Train.
