Delphine Lorraine Michalak
June 21, 1938 – July 10, 2025
Delphine Lorraine Michalak, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born on June 21, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to Stanley and Stella Dziczek, Delphine lived a life marked by generosity, devotion, and unwavering love for her family.
Beloved wife of the late Bernard Michalak, Delphine was the cherished mother of Debra (Don) Westbrook, Mike (Cadira) Michalak, Donna (Michael) Haselhuhn, and Eric (Deana) Michalak. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Brendon (Anna), Troy (Eliza), Travis (Zoe), Justin, Joshua, Dallas, Cooper, Braden, and Paige, and great-grandmother of Mikayla and Kira. She treasured the time she spent with all of them and took great joy in watching them grow.
Delphine met her beloved husband, Bernie, in junior high school, and they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and family—much of it spent on Chief Lane in Westland, where they raised their children and created a warm, welcoming home. Delphine was the heart of their home, always making sure every meal was ready—including cooking up Bernie’s fresh catch from fishing trips—for big family gatherings.
Their shared love for their children was steady and strong, and Delphine carried that forward every day of her life. Her love for them was unwavering; she did everything she could to ensure their happiness and safety, and she was always there when they needed her. She was deeply generous and family-oriented in every way.
With Bernie by her side, Delphine created a lifetime of memories with their family—summers spent in the pool, snowmobiling in the winter, weekends filled with family gatherings, holidays rich with tradition, and countless hours enjoying time outdoors. She was at the heart of every celebration, from birthdays to graduations, surrounded by immediate and extended family. Whether welcoming loved ones, preparing meals, or tending to every detail, she made those moments warm, memorable, and full of love.
Their home was also a gathering place for her friends and for the neighborhood kids when her children were young—a home where people were always welcomed, well-fed, and looked after. Delphine never hesitated to offer a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or something to eat or drink. Whether you were a close friend or just someone passing through, she had a way of making you feel like you belonged.
Delphine had a playful spirit and enjoyed the casino as a time to relax and take a break from her everyday responsibilities—especially video slot machines, where she appreciated the lights and sounds and the thrill of the game, especially the excitement of a good bonus round.
Her family hopes that everyone who knew Delphine will carry her memory gently in their hearts and celebrate her life—whether it’s a quiet thought in a busy day, a story told to a loved one, or a small act of kindness inspired by the love she so freely gave. The light of her laughter, the warmth of her embrace, and the endless well of her generosity remain with us forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
