Dorothy M. Turowski

April 8, 1928 — May 20, 2023

Dorothy M. Turowski, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away on May 20, 2023, at her home. She was born on April 8, 1928, in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, to the late John and Bernice Pawlowski. Dorothy's life was marked by love, compassion, and a deep sense of dedication to her family and those around her. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stanley, who was her partner in life and business. Together, they operated a successful funeral home, providing solace and support to numerous grieving families throughout the years. As a mother, Dorothy was a source of unwavering love and guidance. She is survived by her children, John (Diane), Janice, Paul (Lezli), Mary Anne (Greg) Ralko, Elaine (Phil) Blaszczak, and Beverly. Her nurturing spirit and devotion to her family will be forever remembered and treasured. Dorothy's role as "Busia" brought immeasurable joy to her life. She adored her grandchildren, Matthew, Luke (Becky), John, Adam (Charis), Mark (Klaudia), Jonathan, and Evan (Courtney), and embraced her role as a guiding presence in their lives. Her love and support will continue to inspire and shape their journeys. She also leaves behind a legacy that extends to her five great-grandchildren. Dorothy was also a dear sister to the late Ted (Irene) Pawlowski and a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her kindness and warmth extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Dorothy's love for animals was boundless, and she shared her life with a succession of beloved four-legged companions. Blackie, Skeeter, Snookie, Koko, Jake, Ben, Hutch, Max, and her cherished boy Charlie were not only pets but true members of her family. Their loyal companionship brought her comfort and joy throughout her life. Dorothy held a deep pride in her Polish heritage, which was instilled in her from a young age. Growing up on 23rd St. and Michigan Ave. in Detroit, she was surrounded by a vibrant Polish community. Her father, John Pawlowski, served as the organist at St. Casimir Parish. As a little girl, Dorothy eagerly awaited the end of Sunday services, excitedly running to meet her father and walking home together for a Sunday dinner. After 74 years apart, the gates of heaven reunited them, forever connecting them in love and memories. In 1949, Dorothy graduated from the Providence Hospital School of Nursing on West Grand Blvd. in Detroit. The school and hospital, run by the Felician Sisters, also known as the Daughters of Charity, provided her with the knowledge and skills that she would carry throughout her life. Her nursing expertise became invaluable as she cared for her own children during times of illness, tending to their measles, chickenpox, mumps, and various childhood bumps, scrapes, and bruises. Dorothy's compassion extended beyond her own family, providing care and comfort to children from the neighborhood as well. Dorothy's dedication to her family and community was exemplified through her involvement with the Stanley Turowski Funeral Home. Alongside her husband, Stanley, she helped build the business from the ground up, ensuring that families received support and compassion during their most difficult times. Dorothy's attention to detail and loving care extended even to the smallest aspects, ensuring that those who entered heaven did so with a beautiful hairdo, a testament to her unwavering commitment to her profession. The Turowski family expresses deep gratitude to Jeff, Scott, and Todd Boleski for upholding the tradition of kindness and compassion in the funeral home, providing solace when it is most needed. Dorothy’s life was marked by love, strength, and a deep connection to her Polish heritage. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love of her heavenly family and the memories of a life well lived. In memory of Dorothy Turowski, donations may be made in her name to Angela Hospice.
