Elaine Marie Lucas, born on September 30, 1930, in Pulawski Township, MI to Frank and Hattie Kowalski, peacefully passed away on January 19, 2024. She was a beloved woman, who leaves behind a robust legacy of warmth, love, spunk, and many treasured moments. Elaine was a pillar of strength, a devoted wife to the late Herbert, a caring mother, and a cherished (great, great-great) grandmother. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, embracing extending family, friends, and neighbors. Elaine's home on Warwick has long been a welcoming haven overflowing with love, laughter, memories, and an unimaginable number of loved ones. A wonderful storyteller, Elaine had the remarkable ability to captivate hearts with her tales. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in watching John Wayne and Shirley Temple movies. She had a passion for life, a love for parties, and a dance in her step (especially the polka) that brought joy to those around her. Her spirit for life was reflected in her love for singing, playing, and dancing, creating abundant memories that will be forever treasured by all who knew her. Elaine was a pure, selfless, and faithful person, only seeing and speaking the positive of those around her. Her kindness was limitless, and her genuine love for others was evident in her actions and words. Her mantra often used when ending a visit or phone call, "I love you for a thousand reasons, but most of all because you are you," resonated as a testament to her unconditional love. Elaine is survived by her devoted children: Bill (the late Toby), Donna (Rick) Cronk, Diane (Ron) Bryk, Joe (Sandy), Paul (Karen), Steve, and the late Rob (the late Dianne). She was a cherished grandma to Bill Jr. (Angie), Kevin (Dayna), Robert, Dawn (James) Dash, Jack Garcia, Jacob Castillo, Leah (Kevin) Castillo, Jackie (Mike) Horgan, Michelle (Dom) Bonell, Josh, Paul (Kayla), and Brian (Katelynn). Her loving great-grandchildren include Cierra, Casey, Vanessa, Aubrey, Alicia (Yale) Heady, David, Azalea, Max, Abbey, Ava, and Ashlyn, with the addition of great-great-grandchild Melody Elaine. Elaine is also remembered by her dear sister, Doris (the late Lloyd) Carbary, and sisters Viola “Janie” (Paul) Wolaitis, Marie (the late Bob) Floer, along with many late siblings; the late Frank Kowalski, the late Don (Betty) Kowalski, the late Richard Kowalski, the late Lawrence (late Georgia) Kowalski, the late Gerald Kowalski, and the late Dolores Kowalski. She leaves behind a legacy of love that extends to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation to celebrate Elaine's life will take place on Thursday from 12-4 pm, with an early viewing at 11 am for family, and a Remembrance and Story Sharing at 2:30 pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 W. Warren, Dearborn Heights. Lying in state Friday at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church (St. Juan Diego Parish) until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. We gather to remember Elaine, let us cherish the memories of a life well-lived, and may her spirit continue to inspire us all. Funeral Mass Friday, time and location pending.
