Frances Ann Mercurio passed away on February 15, 2026, at the age of 72, following a courageous year-and-a-half battle with stage 4 breast cancer. Born in Detroit on November 12, 1953, Fran was the beloved second daughter of Dolores and the late Joseph Mercurio.
Fran was the loving and dedicated mother of Joseph and Scott (Heather) Greenwell, and former spouse of Chuck Greenwell. Dearest sister of Kathy (Greg) Dabkowski and Therese (Jasper) Fodera. Loving aunt of Lauren, Jackie, Colette, and Allison. Great aunt of Dominic, Dino, Giovanni, Maxine, and Juliette. Best friend of Barbara Sasena.
Raised in Dearborn and a proud graduate of St. Alphonsus School (Class of 1971), Fran worked as a bookkeeper at Mercurio Bros. Bananas on the Eastern Market until they closed in 1999. She then worked as a closing officer at Hometown One Title Company, where she delighted in guiding families through the process of buying a home.
Fran was known as a tireless helper. Before the convenience of the internet, she would spend hours at libraries researching medical, technical, or whatever topic held her interest at the time in order to find solutions for anyone in need. Often joking that she should have been a private investigator, she loved digging for information to help others.
Above all, Fran was a caregiver. She provided unconditional guidance and love to her family and friends, continuing to support them through the final weeks of her life. Whether caring for her elderly parents or supporting her ex-husband, Chuck, through his own health challenges, Fran gave of herself without hesitation.
Fran will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will continue to inspire everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her.
Memorial visitation will be held Friday, March 6, at 10:00 am at St. Kenneth Church (14951 North Haggerty Road, Plymouth), followed by memorial Mass at 11:00 am.
A memorial luncheon will be held immediately following Mass at the Italian American Club of Livonia (39200 Five Mile Road, Livonia).
