Dr. Frank P. Prokop, age 95, entered into eternal life on March 7th, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 4th, 1921, graduated from Wilbur Wright as a tool & die maker, and enlisted in the Army the day after graduation. He became an airplane mechanic, then instructor and was able to go to pilot school when the war broke out. He was a proud B24 bomber pilot stationed in Rackheath, England until he was shot down over Germany and captured by young Germans with pitchforks, out to feed their cows. He was turned over to the German police and eventually was sent to StalagLuft III, arriving after the Great Escape, and was liberated one year and one day later. After the war, he married Eleanor Buslowicz, attended medical school at Loyola University Chicago, and then went to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for his residency in internal residency, for the stately sum of $20/month, which was the same amount he received in the army. After 2 years, they moved back to Detroit with 2 children and continued his residency at Detroit Receiving before going into private practice. He spent 31 years as “the man on the corner”, caring for many generations of families. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Eleanor Buslowicz, his infant son John Paul, and his grandson George Betro. He is survived by his wife Madeline (Parks) Prokop, his 6 children: Frank Jr. (Giovanna Giovannone), Susan Prokop, Anne Tarnacki, Judy (Joe) Betro, Lisa (Emil) Sdao, and Carolyn McIntosh. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Braxton Cullum, Mia Cullum, Frank P. Prokop III (Sarah), Alex Prokop, Joseph Betro II, Sadie Betro; Sophia, Isabella, and Angelina Sdao, Shelby and Riley McIntosh, and 2 great grand children: Kai Oliver and Cecilia Prokop and soon-to-be-born Katalina Marie Cullum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Little Sisters of the Poor or Henry Ford Hospice. Visitation……. Saturday and Sunday 3-8 pm with the rosary at 6:30 pm on Sunday Funeral mass…….
