George E. Dean

December 22, 1924 — April 24, 2018

George Edwin Dean was born on December 22, 1924 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Mary (Supac) and Edwin.  George was the eldest of nine children.  The family eventually moved to Wayne, Michigan and George graduated from Wayne High School.  George frequently shared stories of his younger days working at the former Clyde Smith Nursery during his teen-age years.   After graduation, George enlisted in the Navy and served our country in both World War II and the Korean War.  He was a survivor of Omaha Beach, when serving on a Landing Ship Infantry.   After being discharged from the Navy, George began his career as an Electrician.  He eventually became an Electrical Contractor and owned his own business for many years – Stecz Electric Company.  George received several “Man of the Year” awards during his career from the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association.   George was known for his meticulous attention to detail in almost everything he did, and his ability to perform almost any household task with absolute perfection.  He loved any functions involving his children and immediate family.  He also enjoyed meeting with his siblings in Frankenmuth for their monthly birthday gatherings, as well as his visits to his sister’s home in Fort Myers, Florida during the recent winters.  He enjoyed playing card games with his family and always had his dimes ready to play!  He also enjoyed talking Tiger baseball with his friend and neighbor Joe.   George met and married Dolores (Dody) McDonough in 1954.  They eventually built a home in Dearborn Heights, and George remained a resident there until moving to Novi in September 2017.   George and Dody raised three children:  Terrence, Brian, and Diana.  He had recently moved from his home in Dearborn Heights into an Assisted Living Unit at the Rose Senior Living Center in Novi.    George is survived by his children Terrence (Ann) of Muskegon, Brian (Connie) of Cincinnati, and Diana (Ted) Marzonie of Novi.  He is also the dear Grandfather of Kevin, Trevor (Christine), Matthew (Sara), and Emily Dean, and Kristen (Nicholas Saia) Marzonie and Molly Marzonie.  He is also the Great-Grandfather of Patrick Dean, and has a second great-grandchild expected in October.   George was also the cherished older brother of Virginia (Lear), Dolores (Lumsden), Rosemary (Schwager), Ken (Nancy), Alice (Jerry) Bridgewater, and Mary Lou (John) Hayes.  George was preceded in death by brothers Harvey and Edwin.  He is also survived by sister-in-law Eileen Dean and many nieces and nephews.   Visitation is planned for Monday April 30th from 10:00 – 11:00 am at St. Linus Church in Dearborn Heights, with a Funeral Mass immediately following at 11:00 am.  George will be cremated, and will be buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield at a later date, alongside his wife.    In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the American Heart Association at the following link: http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/
