George Kramar

April 20, 1931 — August 15, 2023

George Kramar, 92, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan and Naples, Florida died from complications due to a stroke without one wrinkle on his face. George was born in Banatsko Novo Selo, Yugoslavia and had a rough life there. During World War ll George had to leave his village at the age of 14 to move to the city to find work and help support his family. He went to trade school to become a jeweler. With tenacity and determination he escaped the Communist government he abhorred in hopes to make it to America. With grit and perseverance his dream came true when he came to America in 1959. In 1960, he opened up his own jewelry store George Kramar Jewelers after working hard and sacrificing to live the American dream. One of the happiest days of his life was when he became an American citizen in 1965. He married Betty (nee Husek) on September 11, 1965 to whom he was married until the day he died. In January 1966, he made his brother Paul a partner and renamed the store Kramar Jewelry which continues to operate today in Royal Oak. George was a do-it-yourself fix it guy which usually meant calling the professionals after the fact. He was always very generous with his friends and family and opened his home to anyone. He’d relish talking to you about stocks and if you didn’t know any better you’d think he was a financial advisor. He was not! George was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty”. Cherished father of Betsy (Frankie) Andreu, Georgie, and Andy (Chris). Also survived by his daughter-in-law, Jane Kramar. Loving grandpa of Erin, Lauren, Frankie, Marta, and Stevie. Dear brother of Olga Muresan, Vicky Campbell, the late Laza Kramar, Marija Kramar, Paul Kramar, and Ivan Kramar. Visitation Wednesday 2-8 pm with a Scripture Service at 7:00 pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 W. Warren, Dearborn Heights. Instate Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Maria Goretti Church, 3965 Merrick St, Dearborn Heights, (formerly St. Sebastian Church) until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. George was proud to be an American. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Residential Hospice, Tunnels to Towers, or The Capuchins.
