Henry “Jim” Lewandowski

Born in Toledo, Ohio on August 6, 1935, to the late Rose Grupa and Henry Lewandowski. Beloved husband of Suzanne (Begien) for 65 years, and loving father of Steven (Julie), Jeffrey, and Andrea (Trin) Astrella. Dearest grandfather of Jennifer, Matthew, Grant, Trin James, Marina, and Sebastian, and great-grandfather to Blake. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Schriner.

Jim proudly served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958 as a communications clerk on the destroyer USS English, visiting numerous ports in the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf on a goodwill tour. He was also a graduate of the Detroit College of Business, returning to school later in life.

He was hired by Delta Airlines as a reservations clerk to work at the expanded Detroit Metropolitan Airport in 1959, eventually becoming a supervisor during a 33-year career that included commuting to Atlanta on a weekly basis. He retired from Delta at the age of 52 and then worked part-time, including many years as a starter/ranger at Dearborn Hills Golf course. He also devoted much of his free time to his one true hobby of golf.

Jim will be deeply missed by family and friends.
