(Sunday August 26, 2012) Today is a day of mixed emotions. Our Mama (we called her lovingly) who was sick for so long became an angel on this special day. Today is our grandson & Mama's great grandson Brendan's 13th birthday. One angel brought into this world & one leaving us. When my mother-in-law became an angel it was on the day that my nephew Robert was born.
We are crushed with mama leaving us but we thank God that she left with loved ones around her, prayers surrounding her, and her daughters & niece singing to her. We sang songs of praise, songs of love & songs mama sang to us growing up. Just one month ago mama was singing some of the same songs with us when we were visiting. The beautiful voice & talents she handed down to her daughters, grandchildren, nieces & nephews will live on in God's gift to us. Even living with a pacemaker, battling breast & metastasized cancer, leukemia, dementia, blood clot & more, mama never missed a note & sang strong. She was 86 years old. We had heavenly music playing to sooth & comfort her transition from this life to the eternal life awaiting us all. We held her hands, we kissed her, we caressed her, we comforted her, we loved her & yes we cried. Tears slid from the corner of her eyes. Even now she didn't want to leave us because Mama loved life.
Mama had loving Angela Hospice doctors, nurses, health aides, social workers & staff at the nursing home that helped her life expectancy exceed her diagnosis. More than that they really cared & loved our Mama. To them we will be forever grateful. We are thankful for all the prayers & blessings of Father Bilot, Father Bechill, & Father Zaleski. Father Bechill & Father Zaleski were there this Blessed Sunday for Mama and Wally & blessed our entire family. We will be forever grateful, thank-you & may God Bless you.
After the unexpected loss of our daddy Antoni, Wally became Mama's love for almost thirty four years. He loved her & she loved him. They were a few doors near each other in the nursing home. We had almost lost Wally a few times just as recently as two weeks ago. He came back from the hospital & we celebrated his 88th birthday on August 24th. Mama would never have missed it but she could not leave her bed. We were going back to mama's room watching her bargain with the angel of death to give her more time without saying a word. We did the same. Mama lost her voice & couldn't talk. But this time there was no bargaining. Her frail body had enough.
But today this Blessed Sunday the nurses brought Wally into mama's room so they could hold hands. He was by her side the entire time. We kept a promise she requested, Wally by her side. When mama passed and became an angel at 5:55 p.m. today, we watched her take her last breath & close her eyes slowly & peacefully with her daughters, son-in-laws, granddaughters, great granddaughters, nieces and nephews by her side. We kept another promise to mama. She would become an angel peacefully, lovingly, & surrounded by those she loved & those who loved her. Mama didn't die alone.
Yes mama we will take care of Wally for the rest of his days and love him like he loved you....We love you our dearest Mama and may you rest in peace wrapped in God's loving arms and Angel wings....Thank-you for everything.
Your loving daughter,
Janina
