James & Rita Brosko

d. June 15, 2023

James Andrew Brosko 4/6/23 – 8/14/14 Son, Brother of 1, Father of 2, Uncle of 3, and Grandfather of 1. Born April 6, 1923, near Harrisville PA to Andrew and Anna Brosko. His younger brother Robert was born three years later, and they were raised in the Christian Lutheran Religion. Their family owned the Brosko General Store, and they bought the first car anyone owned in their town. Their family store provided food and supplies on consignment during the depression when families could not afford to buy all they needed. After many years, due to the financial strain created by their generosity they were forced to close the store. Jims family moved to Detroit Michigan in 1936 when Jim was 13 year3 old. He later enlisted in the Army during WWll and landed on Normandy Beach on D Day. He also fought in the battle of the bulge in the Ardennes Forest in Belgium. Rita Ann Winters 4/22/1929 – 6/15/2023 Daughter, Sister of 2, Mother of 2, and Grandmother of 1. Rita was born April 22, 1929, in Detroit Michigan to Albert and Anna Winters. Coincidentally she was born on the same day as Shirly Temple, and she loved Shirley Temple throughout her life. Her brother Albert Winters Jr was born three years later in 1932. She was raised Roman Catholic and served God her entire life as a devoted Catholic. Rita attended Holy Redeemer Catholic High School in Detroit where she later worked at the Holy Redeemer Library with her cousin who ran library and taught theology at the school. Jim and Rita met at Bald Eagle Lake in Michigan after Jim returned from serving in the Army. It was love at first sight for both. Jim told his mother after seeing Rita for the first time, “Do you want to see the girl I am going to marry? That’s her right over there.” And Rita told her cousin Irene after seeing Jim for the first time, “See the tall one? He’s mine.” Jim & Rita were married in Detroit on October 24, 1947. Jim converted to Catholicism and devoted his life to his new wife. Their first child James Brosko Jr was born on August 25, 1959, and their Daughter Darlene Brosko was born on March 17, 1949. While working as a furniture reupholsterer and TV repairman, Jim earned his associate degree at Community College and later he earned his master’s degree in electrical engineering while working at the Bendix Corporation in Detroit. Jim was offered a position in South Florida in 1980 and moved to Boca Raton in 1981 as guardians to their only Grandson, Michael. They immediately joined the newly formed St. Jude parish that did not have a church or location yet and was initially planned to be called St. Rita’s. They attended St. Jude’s Saturday vigil mass at the Chapel at St. Andrews while the St. Jude’s church and school was being planned and built. Jim & Rita continued to attend St. Jude together weekly for almost 40 years sitting in the same location in the second row of pews. Jim & Rita celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 24, 1997, at their home in Boca with family and friends. They had a devoted, loving, and caring marriage until Jim was called home to the Lord on August 14, 2014. Rita continued to reside in their home with the help of her loving daughter Darlene for the next 9 years when Rita finally was reunited with her lifelong friend, husband, and partner on June 15, 2023. The world became a better place because of them, and they will be missed forever. Memorial donations suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital
