Jason Robert Jonca

In loving memory of Jason

With profound love and immeasurable sorrow we share the passing of Jason Robert Jonca at age 46. A devoted husband, father, grandfather (dziadzia), a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend whose vibrant spirit and generous heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. On Saturday, November 29, 2025, Jason left this world unexpectedly, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He was born on February 28, 1979, in Dearborn, Michigan, son of Ziggy and Patricia (Szalony) Jonca. He is survived by both his parents; his beloved wife, Lori; his loving children, Rieley, Cameron, and Brielle; his adoring grandchildren, Mia and Evelyn; his dearest brothers, Brian (Kristie), Kevin, and Jody; his nieces and nephews, Storey, Abbey, Carson, and Emme. Jason is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sue Kahl; sisters-in-law Kristi (Tim) Hughes, Julie Kahl, and Wendy (Gary) Lovens. He is preceded in death by his grandparents John and Mary Szalony, and Michaelina Jonca; his father-in-law, Grover Kahl; uncles, Michael Husereau and Pete Jonca; aunt, Kathy Szalony and cousin, Jackie Maurier.

His life was rooted in faith and education. He attended Catholic school from his earliest years at St. Raphael in Garden City through his graduation from Divine Child High School in 1997, where he excelled both academically and athletically. His passion for sports carried him to Albion College, where he played four years of collegiate baseball before earning his law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy—a testament to his determination and drive.

Jason embraced life’s simple pleasures and cherished time with family and friends. Summers at the family lake house were among his happiest days—cruising on the pontoon boat, fishing with his dad, and evenings sitting by the fire. These moments reflected Jason’s love for togetherness and the outdoors.

A true sports enthusiast, Jason was passionate about all the Detroit sports teams and had a special love for the University of Michigan, especially their football and basketball teams. He loved golf and found joy in every round he played. Later in life, Jason deepened his appreciation for biblical and theological teachings, enriching his faith and perspective.

Above all, Jason was a family man. He treasured traditions like family trips to Hilton Head and holiday gatherings, especially Thanksgiving and the Szalony Christmas Eve (Wigilia), when the house overflowed with laughter, love, and the warmth of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He treasured the many family trips he took with his wife and kids and the lifelong memories they were able to make. His greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren—Rieley, Cameron, Brielle, Mia and Evelyn. Jason was their biggest fan, cheering them on at every game and event, celebrating every accomplishment with boundless enthusiasm and spending countless hours of Dziadzia daycare duties.

Jason’s life was a beautiful example of love, laughter, and devotion to family. Though his absence leaves a profound ache, his spirit will forever inspire those who knew him to live fully, love deeply, and cherish every moment.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Go Fund Me created to keep his children in their current house where they have so many fond memories of their dad.
