Joan Margaret Kempinski August 16, 1932 - May 26, 2023 Joan Margaret Kempinski, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on May 26, 2023, at the age of 90. Born on August 16, 1932, in Gibson Township, MI, Joan was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Watroba. She grew up with a deep appreciation for her Polish heritage, and her fluency in Polish and love for polka music reflected her pride in her roots. Joan had an exceptional talent for mathematics and was regarded as a true math wiz, displaying her intellect and passion for numbers throughout her life. For many years, Joan served as an executive administrator and pre-need counselor at Jarzembowski Funeral Home. Her dedication to her work and her compassion for grieving families touched the lives of countless individuals. Joan's warm and caring nature made her an invaluable presence during difficult times, offering solace and guidance to those in need. Family was the cornerstone of Joan's life. She adored her loved ones and cherished the moments spent together at family gatherings. Joan's culinary skills were renowned, and her delicious creations brought joy to the palates of all who were fortunate enough to taste them. Her backyard pool became a hub of happiness for her children and the neighborhood kids, creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of community. One of Joan's favorite family activities was visiting Camp Dearborn, where she eagerly participated in the invigorating Chicken Fat exercise classes every morning. She also had a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of Alaska, often traveling there to witness its breathtaking landscapes. The Iditarod captured her imagination, showcasing the spirit of adventure she carried within her. In her leisure time, Joan found great pleasure in watching classic movies, with Casablanca holding a special place in her heart. She frequently tuned in to Turner Classic Movies, indulging in the timeless stories and captivating performances that transported her to different eras. Joan was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Wallace Kempinski. Together, they built a strong and loving partnership that stood the test of time. She was the loving mother of Tony, Mitch, Jim (Cindi), Joe (Carla), Donna (Jim) Sutherland, Joanie (Bob) Selakowski, and the late Richard. Her dedication and unconditional love as a mother were unmatched. Joan will forever be remembered as a cherished grandmother to Sheri (Andy), Nicole, Kara, Daniel, Erika, Luke, and Ella. The joy she derived from her grandchildren's achievements and the love she bestowed upon them was immeasurable. She was also a dear great-grandmother to Dominic and Logan, who brought a sparkle to her eyes and filled her heart with pure happiness. Preceded by sister Josie Galicki who Joan helped raise. When their mother passed away Joan was only 10 and Josie was 5. Joan had to be both a sister and mother causing her to have to grow up fast. She loved her sister. Joan also left behind many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm, at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, located at 25509 W. Warren in Dearborn Heights. The funeral services will continue on Wednesday at 9:30 am at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where a Mass will be held at 10:00 am.
