Cherished father of Kathy (Greg) Dabkowski, Fran Mercurio (former spouse Chuck Greenwell), and Therese (Jasper) Fodera. Loving Papa of Joe, Scott, Lauren, Jackie, Colette, and Allison. Great Papa of Dominic, Dino, Giovanni, and Maxine. Joe was born in Detroit and raised in Dearborn, Michigan. He was a dedicated family man who began working in the family business in 1946, Mercurio Bros Bananas (Eastern Market), with passion and dedication and took over running the business from 1973 to 1999. Joe had a love for sports, particularly baseball, and was inducted into the Dearborn Hall of Fame for his achievements in the sport. He had the honor of trying out for the Major Leagues with the New York Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals, a testament to his skill and love for the game. In addition to his professional achievements, Joe was an active member of his community. He was involved with the Alhambra and the Bishop Foley Knights of Columbus, where he found joy in contributing to charitable efforts and supporting local causes. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Alphonsus/St. Clement Parish, followed by Mass at 11:00 am. Joe will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to have known him. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Solanus Casey Center Blessed Solanus Casey
