Jozefa (Josephine) Zdun age 92, passed away on January 1, 2022. She was born in the village of Swilcza in Poland to the late Jan and Maria Mis on October 10, 1929 Jozefa's internal strength, faith, and commitment to family defined her life. She was the oldest of 4 sisters and exhibited big sister caregiver and leadership roles throughout her life. Her childhood took place in a turbulent period in Poland's history, as a young teen she was taken as a forced laborer and shipped to a holding center in Krakow while awaiting final assignment, her family arranged her escape and subsequent hideout from authorities. She ultimately returned home to her family and excelled in her studies, she enjoyed math and studied to become a bookkeeper in the nearby city. She married her first sweetheart Eugene Zdun at the age of 19 in 1948, with ambitions of coming to America. They ultimately overcame communist regime hurdles and had to emigrate separately in the early 1960s. She made the arduous trip to Detroit, with her infant daughter Danusia, eager to reunite with her husband and begin their new life. She embraced her new country but maintained ties to her homeland and created new ties to the Polish American community. She took on various jobs in catering and housekeeping, spending 15 years at Parklane Towers working the afternoon shift, she got to know many late working executives by name, she enjoyed the comradery and took pride in her work. She welcomed daughter Martha and son Richard along the way, consistently reinforcing her Catholic faith and Polish heritage to her family. She worked hard but also enjoyed life, regularly attending dances and hosting parties with delicious food and choruses of Polish songs wafting out of the basement into the wee hours of the night. She provided support to family in Poland, hosted relatives, and others needing a hand up. She loved flowers, gardening, and maintaining a spotless home. The family enjoyed time at their cottage on Bass Lake. It was Jozefa and Eugene's favorite place and the summer collection point for the family. When grandchildren arrived on the scene, she embraced the grandmother role and relished being a regular fixture in their lives, always willing to lend a hand. Each of the grandchildren have fond memories of “Busia'' playing with them and cajoling (and sometimes chasing) them to put on a sweater or slippers so they wouldn't get cold. Jozefa's husband passed in 2009, after 60 years of marriage, she maintained her independence but had lost a part of her. In recent years, dementia had stolen much of her memory but not her strength or faith in God. There were occasional flashes of the old “Busia” that her family relished. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last days and is grateful that she is at peace and finally home. Jozefa is survived by: her children Diana (the late Rick) Jacobs, Marti (Ray) Biscaro, and Rich (Shannon) Zdun. Her grandchildren Bill, Liz, Joe, John, Josie, and Griffin, great-grandchild Charley. Her sisters Stasia Trala and Janina Muzyk. Preceded in death by her husband Eugene and her sister Czesia Kaszuba Visitation Thursday from 4-8 pm with Rosary at 7 pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 W. Warren, Dearborn Heights. Instate Friday at 10 am until the time of Mass at 10:30 am at St. Linus Church.
