Kathryn Mary Sobota

March 20, 1949 — July 14, 2023

Kathryn Mary Sobota March 20, 1949 - July 14, 2023 Kathryn Mary Sobota, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed from this world into eternal life on July 14, 2023, in Detroit, Michigan, at the age of 74. Kathryn was born March 20, 1949, in Detroit, to Valentine and Elizabeth Fox. Kathryn left behind a legacy of love, kindness, friendship, and dedication to the nursing profession of which she was so proudly a member. Kathryn grew up in Dearborn and eventually settled in Dearborn Heights where she shared an extraordinary bond for more than 50 wonderful years with her husband, Dennis Sobota. Their love and devotion to one another, commitment, and fidelity were an inspiration to everyone who knew them. Kathryn and Dennis were a shining example of a strong, enduring and faith-filled marriage. Kathryn was a loving mother beyond all measure, who poured her heart and soul into raising, teaching, supporting, and cherishing her daughter, Elisabeth (Tony) Sobota-Perry. She was a constant source of encouragement, strength, guidance, and unwavering love. Through her everyday actions, Kathryn cultivated a nurturing environment in which her family would bloom and grow. Kathryn cherished her role as a warm and tender grandmother, finding immense joy in the lives of her grandchildren, Kinga, Veronica, Patricia, and Michael. Her love for them knew no bounds, her adoration of her grandchildren had no limits, she delighted in creating beautiful memories with each of her grandchildren, and she exposed them to her beloved Motown music every chance she could. Kathryn led by example and instilled in her family the gift of Catholic faith, demonstrating by her own actions the values, ideals, and principles she treasured. She taught her Catholic faith through her daily words and deeds, as a shining example of everyday kindheartedness, empathy, generosity, and loyalty. She was a dear sister to the late John Fox and James Fox, and a sister-in-law to Thomas (Gina) and the late Antoinette. Kathryn's presence in their lives brought warmth and comfort, and she was a pillar of strength during both joyful and challenging times. Her nieces and nephews, Steven Sobota, Nicole Sobota, John Fox, and Robert Fox, were fortunate to have her as an aunt who unwaveringly showered them with love and support throughout their lives. Kathryn's circle of friendship extended beyond her immediate family. She held a special place in her heart for Norman Holmes, and for her close circle of fellow nursing professionals. She cherished their companionship and valued their life-long friendships, which afforded them mutual comfort and strength. Just as Kathryn shared consolation with her friends, she also delighted in the joys of friendship with many happy experiences shared throughout the years. She was quick to smile, lend support, and offer a listening ear to those fortunate enough to have known her. Kathryn dedicated 36 years of her life working as a registered nurse at Children's Hospital of Michigan, where her compassion and commitment touched the lives of countless children and their families. Her unwavering dedication to the nursing profession was a source of tremendous pride. Her genuine and selfless care for others made her an indispensable part of the hospital community. She continued to make a difference by working 11 years at Children's Choice and DMC Care, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those she served. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kathryn was an extraordinary family woman. She reveled in the love and laughter shared during the many gatherings she hosted. This was particularly true of Thanksgiving, which was the much-anticipated meal of the year for her loved ones. Kathryn's warm and welcoming nature endeared her to all who crossed her path, and her acts of kindness and generosity made her a well-known figure in her neighborhood and in her parish. Kathryn was the first person to reach out with prayers for healing for anyone who was ill, often with a healing Mass card from the Capuchins. Kathryn’s many selfless acts of benevolence and gentle compassion will never be forgotten.
