He graduated from Wilbur Wright High School, then attended Business College for 1 year. At age 18, he started a three-piece band, they played on the weekend, for all occasions. In 1938 the band played for a wedding in Elkton, Michigan for Josephine’s brother Frank. That is where they met. Three years later they reconnected in Detroit when she came to visit her sister Ann. They began to date and shortly after were married in Detroit, on October 4, 1941. Their wedding reception lasted for three days in Elkton, Michigan then they returned to Detroit, to start their new life. Leo entered the US army in 1942, served his country in WWII in the invasion of Omaha Beach, Normandy, was wounded in St. Loe, France. He was sent to a hospital in England for three months, was then transferred to a US hospital on the day of the battle of the Bulge. He remained in the hospital for a total of 11 months. Leo and Josephine raised three sons, Leo, Ron, and Ken, on the westside of Detroit. In 1964 the family moved to Southfield, Michigan. In 1974 they retired and moved to Holiday, Florida. Were they made many friends, formed two Polish clubs. Both were board members until 1999, with Josephine being the first vice president and Leo in charge of entertainment for the club. He contracted orchestras and floor shows from Las Vegas, Chicago, New York and many returning cruise ship lines. They traveled extensively, including many parts of the world. But most of all traveling to spend time with their family! Celebrating his 99th birthday, Leo shared with Ken, one of the saddest days of his life, it was in France, with the war all around him he realized that it was Sunday. Sunday back on the farm in Elkton, the family would be resting and relaxing on the front lawn under the trees. Josephine would be there and did he surely miss her. Would he ever be able to see her again? Shortly after he was wounded and began his return journey to her. They were married for 58 years. Leo loved family and hard work.
