Leo Scantamburlo

May 29, 1949 – October 28, 2024

Leo Scantamburlo, beloved husband, father, Nonno, brother, and uncle, passed away on October 28, 2024. Born in Detroit, Michigan, to Lino and Mary Scantamburlo (née Fiorot) on May 29, 1949, Leo was a proud Italian who cherished his family, faith, and community. Leo married the love of his life, Theresa, on September 12, 1970, and shared 54 years of marriage and countless memories. They grew up together in the same neighborhood and shared a love for family adventures, particularly summer vacations in Pennsylvania and cross-country trips in their motorhome.

A workaholic with an undeniable passion for his career, Leo founded National Tile Company in 1983 and took immense pride in building it from the ground up. Known for his dedication and work ethic, he contributed tirelessly to his community. Leo also served his country as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970.  In 2017 he was honored with an induction into the Detroit Bowling Hall of Fame. His love for bowling, classic cars—especially his cherished 1982 red Corvette—and his grandkids' sports events brought him joy throughout his life.

Leo is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa; children, Brian (Sarah) Scantamburlo and Lisa (Ryan) Saling; and cherished grandchildren, Gianluca and Paolo Scantamburlo, and Ian and Grace Saling. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Scantamburlo, and nieces and nephews, including Lino Garcia, Talia Smalarz, Troy Scantamburlo, Alex Scantamburlo, Raymond Zurawski, and sister-in-law, Loretta (Frank) Galley.  Leo is preceded in death by his siblings David Scantamburlo and Laura (the late Joseph) Garcia, and by his nephew, Ralph Zurawski.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 W. Warren, Dearborn Heights, with a Rosary Sunday at 7:00 pm. On Monday, instate visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at St. Cyprian Catholic Church, 13249 Pennsylvania Rd., Riverview, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. In honor of Leo’s late sister, Laura Scantamburlo Garcia, donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in lieu of flowers.
