Margaret M."Peg" (Murphy) O'Donnell, age 90, passed away June, 18, 2011 in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Born in 1920 in Lawrence Mass, she was the first of 13 children of the late
Thomas J. and Mary E. Murphy. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis A.
O'Donnell and an infant son as well as sisters Helen Heseltine, Catherine
Kane and brothers Thomas and John Murphy. After graduating from St. Mary's High School, she worked in many stage and radio productions with the Tributary Theater. She also worked as a society
columnist and a proof reader with the Sunday Sun and Lawrence Eagle Tribune.
Peg served in the WAVEs, in the US Navy during World War II in Postal Services
in New York and Rhode Island. She met her husband Frank while attending a Count Basie concert at the old Canobie Lake Park Ballroom in Salem, New Hampshire. They were married on
August 3, 1945. Peg worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone and later for
Exchange Bank of Florida. She and Frank retired and moved to Florida and
volunteered at the Osceola County Jail and with Spring Training at Astro's
Stadium in Kissimmee, Florida and met many baseball greats. Peg enjoyed reading and was always seeking information. She encouraged her children to do the same. She was truly her family's walking world almanac. She is survived by her children, Ellen O'Donohue of Los Angeles CA, Margaret
Moody of Shapleigh ME, Bernard (Elaine) O'Donnell of Wilbraham MA. Mildred
(Darrin) Judd of Dearborn Heights, MI., Frances (Jerry) Bever of Anchorage AK, and Mary Anderson of Englewood FL and her siblings, Andrew (Lorraine) Murphy of Las Vegas, NV, sisters Mary Jemlich, Therese Murphy, Ann Martino, Monica Clancy, and Michaela (James) O'Neill of California, and sisters
Bernadette Parsons and Aurelie (Joseph) Amante of New Hampshire. Her legacy includes grandchildren Ian, Kate, and Peter O'Donohue, Jennifer and Michael Moody, Ron (Christine) Young, Melissa Brown, Meghan (Dan) Zaborowski, Molly O'Donnell, Margo O'Donnell and Daniel Judd, Sean and Ryan Bever, Nicole (Chris) Loyd and Sara Anderson and her great grandchildren: Nora, Nicholas, Victoria, Cory, Emily, great-great grandson Kaiden, Honorary Great Grandson Robert Caleb and debuting in September great grandchild Baby Zabo!
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 22, from 1 pm until time of Memorial Service at 2:30pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 W. Warren, Dearborn Heights.
