Mary C Cutajar (nee Galea) September 23, 2024. Mary was born September 26 1934 in the village of Msida on the Island of Malta. Six years after her birth she was, as were all the Maltese people on the Island at the time, victims of WWII Axis aggression when her tiny island sustained severe bombing raids, limited opportunity for education, and hunger to name a few, for the duration of the war and especially the first three years. They sustained daily aerial attacks while living in bomb shelters. Mom and her fellow inhabitants were later awarded the George Cross for Gallantry by none other than King George the VI of England. After the war, she went to the School of Arts to learn the craft of dress pattern making and sewing. Mrs. Cutajar worked with her mother as a seamstress for the next decade until she met her husband Felix (Felice) in 1956. Married in 1956 she embarked several months later to Detroit to be with her new husband and created a family of five children living in Detroit and later Dearborn Heights, MI. She lost her husband when she was 41 and the following year and a half she lost both her parents who were in Malta as were her siblings. Fighting through grief and turmoil, she and her family prospered with all of her children graduating college and herself working for St Mary's Hospital as a seamstress often using her skills taught to her as a young girl to make Nun habits (Clothes) for the staff at St Mary's, -working there until she retired. Also, during this time went back to High School in Dearborn, MI to attain her High School Diploma in 1985 of which she was very proud of. She loved all her children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren/extended family and brought them up in the faith of Christ. She loved all her animals dearly as well, including wild animals whom she would feed. She spent her last days in Manoogian Manor several years after she contracted Alzheimer's disease which in the end took her from us. Otherwise, she was still healthy. We love her still and will always miss her smile (and Maltese temper!) But she will forever be our Mom. She was someone you felt proud to call Mama. She is the wife of the late Felix Cutajar who passed on February 6, 1976 at age 48. Surviving are her five children Mary Theresa, Michael (Gricelda), Antionette (Mark), Joseph (Leslie), Janet (Randy), nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, In-laws, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Eternal rest unto Nana. Always in our hearts.
