Mary Jane Stecker passed away at the age 74 on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Michigan with her loving family by her side. Mary Jane was born on October 2, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to Edward and Helen (nee: Belko) Rutkowski. She was the youngest of three children and she attended Rosary High School in Detroit. After graduation, Mary Jane married and became the proud mother of six children, five daughters and one son. She always joked that she wanted a dozen grandchildren, and she was blessed to receive the love and adoration of exactly that many. She was a longstanding and active member of St. Alexander’s Catholic Church (since closed) in Farmington Hills for many years. Mary Jane was a caring professional who loved working in the medical field. She started in this field by becoming a receptionist/clerical worker, and later earned her Medical Assistant certificate thanks to the encouragement of Dr. Mumtaz George with whom she worked with for many years at Royal Oak Medical Center. She also worked for Mobile Podiatry for 9.5 years in the medical billing field where she had many close friends. She worked at Mobile Podiatry until the office was sold and she retired in 2014. Mary Jane enjoyed spending time with family and was always up for a trip to Baskin Robbins or Panera. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and watch her favorite show “Dancing with the Stars.” She will be remembered as a collector of all things AVON and Precious Moments. She was always there for anyone who needed help, giving her last dollar on so many occasions. Mary Jane lived a simple life and never wanted much, only for her family’s health and happiness. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew her. Preceded in death by her cherished siblings Edward Rutkowski, Jr. and Jacqueline Mroz. Dear mother of Renee Stecker, Bonnie (Marty) Schmid, Paul Stecker, Sherry Higgins, Dawn (James) King, and Corinne Stecker. Beloved grandmother of Jordan Krcek, Dylan Higgins, Alexandra Higgins, Veronica Stecker, Valerie Stecker, Lillian Schmid, James King, Isabella King, Noah King, Quarton Stecker, Zaida Stecker, and Inara Stecker. Great-grandmother of Issac Krcek. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 5th from 1:00 – 8:00 pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 W. Warren, Dearborn Heights, MI. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 6th at 11:30 am, followed by burial at St. Hedwig Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made directly to the family.
