Michael Maher

July 6, 1952 — April 19, 2025

Mike Maher, beloved husband of Sue for 53 years, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. He was the dearest father of Maureen (Bill) Brinker, Michael, Matt, and Marilyn (Gavin) Vogel, and a proud grandpa to Billy, Bailey, Jack, Katelyn, Tyler, Jake, Nick, and Avery.

Family meant everything to Mike. Some of his happiest memories were made around a bonfire on family vacations, Miller Lite in hand, surrounded by laughter and stories. He loved his family deeply and took pride in every moment spent with them. Mike was a humble, modest man who found joy in the simple things in life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and an amazing, infectious laugh.  Once he started laughing, we all started laughing.  His personality and his laid-back nature drew people in, and everyone liked him.  He was incredibly fun to hang out with and he will be missed deeply.

After living in Dearborn for more than twenty years, Mike took a position as an Endurance Driver at the Chrysler Proving Grounds and built his dream home in Manchester. It was an ideal place for him to ride around on his John Deere tractor and enjoy the many sights and sounds that nature offers.  That house became the heart of countless family gatherings and memories.

Mike had a lifelong passion for cars, and loved going to the Dream Cruise and the Telegraph Cruise.  He was a prolific storyteller, and seeing classic cars often had him reminiscing about his personal connection with many of these vehicles.  He also enjoyed bowling and golfing, and had an incredible love of music.  He attended many concerts, from Counting Crows to Bob Seger to Bruce Springsteen, creating many memories along the way.  Although life put challenges in his path, he never complained, and never made excuses. True to his resilient nature, his favorite saying was "Shit happens.  Then you die." – a reminder to live life with humor and grace.

Mike was the loving son of the late Anne and Francis Maher, and the dear brother of Patti (Jim) Ziembowicz, Kathy (Joe) Daly, Mary Anne (the late Bill) Holloway, and Charlie. He was preceded in death by his siblings Sharon (Jim) Smith, Francis “Duff,” and Peggy (the late Gerry) Byrne. Mike was also a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews, who will remember his kindness, laughter, and big heart.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 West Warren, Dearborn Heights. Mike will lie in state Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Alphonsus - St Clement Parish until the time of the Mass at 10:30 AM.

Mike’s love of family, his laughter, his stories, and his easygoing spirit will live on in everyone lucky enough to know him.
