Michael Edward Mroczyk
May 6, 1949 - September 19, 2025
Michael E. Mroczyk ,76, of Dearborn, Michigan, died peacefully at home September 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Martha, five children from their blended family: David, Kathryn (Mike), Ami (Joe), Elizabeth (Jamie), Elam, and grandchildren, Vincent, Jack, Joey, Nick, Cam, Ally, and Dillon. Michael leaves two sisters in Australia, Joanna and Susan, and extended family members in Virginia, Poland, Australia and Europe. He was preceded in death by his parents Patricia and Czeslaw, brother Peter, and sister Tina.
Michael grew up in Poznan, Poland. In 1972, he left Poland, spending time in Germany and London before emigrating to the U.S. and settling in Detroit. He learned computer skills and became a partner in a computer company, WhiteWare, Inc., with David Whitehouse. Together, they built a cohort of very loyal customers by using technology to promote a company’s competitive advantage.
Michael was a man of many interests and many talents: Wayne State University fencer in late 70’s (holding the midwest championship in Epee), race car driver in the 914 Porsche that he restored, rally car driver, 4th degree Black Belt in Shitokan Karate, holder of a pilot license, practitioner and teacher of Active Isolated Stretching (AIS), furniture builder for his wife, but most of all, taking care of his family and participating in the development of his children. He also valued his efforts in bringing a number of family members out of Polish Communism into the free world.
Toward the end of his life, he said that he was proudest of “having the wisdom to marry Martha and begin a life of meaning, because dedicating a life to service of others leads to meaning and happiness.” This belief was reflected in the free classes in AIS he offered to the community to improve their health, his instruction in Karate to adults and children, and his efforts in building a community garden at Christ Church in Dearborn.
Michael was always available to share his many talents with family and community. He leaves a beautiful legacy, attested to by so many of those whose lives he touched. He is truly free now.
