Regina "Reggie" Caroline Kosinski

September 2, 1929 — November 17, 2022

Regina Kosinski 1929-2022 Regina C. Kosinski of Dearborn Heights, Michigan died after a short illness Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family. Born Regina Caroline Grzywacz to Stella and Vincent Grzywacz on Sept. 2, 1929, in Detroit, Regina is predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph V. Kosinski, who died Sept. 3, 2018. Her generous spirit was inspiring to those around her. Regina spoke reverently of her family and loved family gatherings more than anything else. Her bright spirit and sense of humor ran the room on any occasion. She always had a genial presence but just beneath it was a wry observer of people and happenings. She could make anyone laugh and had the comic timing of a professional – at no person’s expense except occasionally, her own. All of this came from a humble, gentle lady who always looked elegant. People delighted in Reggie everywhere she went. Later in her life, if you saw or heard a lively outburst of laughter happen nearby but you couldn’t see her, you could be sure she was in the middle of it, even if she didn’t tower over anyone. Regina was always kind-hearted. Still, if you took too long to make a point, she would dispatch a gentle but firm “Lay it!” to the delight of by-standers. She punctuated many a conversation with that, or another of her colloquialisms. Some of those were derived from her family and their native Polish. From childhood she was conversational in that language and never let it go, even if some of the words later were found to be, ahem, improvised. If any member of her extended family made a memorably funny statement, or stumbled with a malapropism, it was Reggie who would preserve the moment for posterity. “Too much is plenty,” courtesy of her father-in-law, is one that many will recognize. That was a reference to hospital-prepared chicken dinner (and lunch) that seemed to linger on the menu for too many days. She had plenty of her own unintentionally (or were they?) humorous quips, perhaps only to be outdone in that trait by baseball legend Yogi Berra – there was a certain plainspoken wisdom cloaked in many of her casual remarks, noticed by some but not all. Regina was a devoted Detroit Tigers fan and loved all things Detroit. Until her last days she enjoyed being driven around her native city, to “see what’s new.” Very little of what was new escaped her surveying eye. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, a member of St. Linus Parish since 1960. She attended St. Casimir High School in Detroit. Regina Kosinski is survived by her four adult children – Sharon (Larry Kunst), Robert (Daniel), David (Denise), and Joseph (Cindy); seven grandchildren, Brian (Denise), Kenneth, Karsten, Jenna, Amanda (Kevin), Emily and Vince; one great grandson, Logan; nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends. Regina is predeceased by her husband, Joseph, by her parents Vincent and Stella, and siblings Edward, Helen, Henry, Irene, Chester, Clement and Theresa. Regina is an irreplaceable force of lightness, laughter and love in our family and we will miss her dearly.
