Richard Joseph Lewandowski

October 23, 1948 — April 30, 2023

Richard Joseph Lewandowski October 23rd, 1948 – April 30th, 2023 Richard Joseph Lewandowski passed away on the morning of April 30th at the age of 74. He was a loving husband to Christine Lewandowski and the proud father of Amy (Michal Pelic) Lewandowski, Eric (Shelby) Lewandowski, and the late Cody Lewandowski. He was soon going to be a Dziadek. Richard grew up in a family of 7 with his brother Dennis and sisters Cynthia, Alice, and Michelle. His parents Mitchell and Jane lived in Detroit and then moved the family to Dearborn Heights. After graduating from Crestwood High School, he joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served in the 5th Air Force as an electrician and was stationed at Osan Air Base in South Korea. During that time he was assigned the task to arrange the generators for the incoming Bob Hope USO Show. When stationed stateside, Richard worked on exhibits within the Smithsonian and assisted in hurricane disaster relief. After leaving the Air Force, Richard returned home to Dearborn Heights, MI where he then took his electrical skills and worked at Ford Motor Company for more than 30 years. Whether building scale models or flying remote control airplanes, Richard had a true love for aviation. He was a member of the Ribcrackers R/C Club for some time and would announce the air shows and helped spark the passion of others with teaching everyone who was interested how to fly. He also enjoyed shooting sports with his brother Dennis, brother-in-law George Oakes, and would eventually pass that hobby down to his children. Richard had a great interest in WWII history and would read books and watch movies about the subject. Richard met Christine in 1977 who he would later marry in 1986. They enjoyed weekends at the family cottage in Hale, MI, going to movies, traveling, and watching their children grow through the years. They were happily married for 36 years until his passing. The family asks that if any donations are to be made, please make them to K9s for Warriors. Visitation Thursday 2-8 pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 West Warren, Dearborn Heights. Instate Friday at 10:00 am at St. Linus Church until the time of Mass at 10:30.
