Rick Goward

Rick Goward Always a positive force, Rick approached all aspects of life in the most optimistic way. He was so proud of his family and looked forward to every chance they had to spend together. His frequent family phone calls and text messages brought joy to all and will be missed. Rick strived to give back and was always active in his community. He was a member of The Rotary Club of Dearborn, serving as fundraising director and recently elected president. Rick graduated from his beloved Central Michigan University and went on to earn a Master of Music from the acclaimed University of Michigan. In a teaching and conducting career that spanned more than 45 years, Rick touched the lives of many. His students at Trenton High School and Henry Ford College went on to become professional musicians, members of top university marching bands and music teachers. Rick said the best part of his job was seeing his former students enjoy success doing what they love most: playing, conducting and teaching music. Rick formed the award-winning Henry Ford Big Band, achieving international acclaim by performing at major jazz festivals around the world. The band enjoyed remarkable success throughout the years, performing at Carnegie Hall twice, and with music legends such as Maynard Ferguson and the Count Basie Orchestra. The Big Band also performed at four Presidential Inaugural Celebrations in Washington, D.C. Rick was lucky to have had a career where he spent every day doing what he loved, surrounded by family and friends who enjoyed every minute with him. His positive attitude, generosity and sense of humor will be remembered by all. He is survived by his wife Andi, daughters Erin and Emily, and grandsons Lennon and Harrison. Rick Goward made this world a better place. Rick Goward was an advocate for education, the arts, and helping students reach their full potential. In addition to teaching and conducting, he spent much of his life fundraising for college scholarships.
