Roger Alfred Kalski

July 5, 1945 — July 30, 2025

IN LOVING MEMORY OF ROGER ALFRED KALSKI

Roger passed away in his home on 7/30/25 at age 80. Roger was born on July 5, 1945 in Detroit, MI to the late Alfred Kalski and Catherine (Wisniewski) Kalski. Roger loved life. He loved his family. Roger was a fisherman and used to haul in walleye to its limit. He was an avid bowler and used to belong to a bowling league at the Pinetree Bowling Alley in Detroit. Roger also belonged to a dart club and actively participated until this year. He was sad he couldn't continue with darts. Roger was also an avid hunter. He loved hunting with his father, brothers and friends and in later years with his son, Dean. He was a good hunter and has many deer mounts to prove it. But as the years went by, he always had the urge to hunt, but said he would rather just watch the deer and not shoot them. He was also a duck hunter. He and his brother and a few friends used to gather his duck decoys during duck hunting season and leave early, usually for a successful hunt. He also went goose hunting with his dad and shot many.

Roger was enthusiastic about classic cars and bought and sold many. He and his wife used to ride Woodward Avenue during the "Dream Cruise" for several years. He loved classic oldies music and would drive down the street with music blasting. His last car was a 1972 Ford Ranchero. He also loved boats and owned and sold many throughout the years.

Roger owned the Rouge Park Bar in Dearborn Heights for many years. There were Rouge regulars who hung out almost daily at the bar. It was a fun gathering place for many. Although Roger worked full time at Rouge Steel (later bought by Severstal), he managed to take care of business at the bar. He retired from the plant after 49 years.

Roger loved a good time and being the center of attention. He and his wife would dance up a storm at weddings. He would make his Elvis moves and try to make everyone laugh.

He was Mr. Fix-It. In his youth, he would put new engines in his many cars when he lived at home in Detroit. His dad worked midnights at a bakery. When his dad was sleeping, Roger used to push his dad's car down the driveway, start the car in the street, joyride for a while, fill the gas tank up and return the car to the driveway before his dad awoke.

Roger always fixed things around the house, for relatives, neighbors, and the bar. He was someone that you could always depend on.

Roger treasured feeding the squirrels. They would climb on the porch chairs, sit on the tops, and stare in the window until they were fed. He also loved sitting in his yard, watching all the birds gathering in the birdhouses.

Beloved husband to Monica (Nee Kook) Kalski. Loving father of Dean, Jennifer and Kristen. Loving grandfather of Rachel, Mark and Justin and great-grandpa to Madisen and Jason. Loving brother-in-law to Greg, Jane, Loraine (Roy) and Kathleen (Al). Loving uncle to to Susan, Eric, Michael (Katie) and great uncle to Anna, Olivia and Audrey. Also, brother to Anthony (Pat), Paul, Mark, Alfred (Buddy, deceased) Mary, David and Ted.
