Salvatore Giuliano

March 5, 1929 — October 27, 2024

Salvatore Giuliano March 5, 1929 - October 27, 2024 Salvatore Giuliano, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Salvatore was surrounded by his family. Salvatore was born on March 5, 1929, in Tripoli, Libya to Domenico Giuliano and Paolina Larocca. After the untimely death of his father at the age of 9, he was raised in an orphanage and later a boarding school in Northern Italy. He returned to his ancestral home in Sicily where his grandfather taught him the barber trade. He later moved to Costacciaro, Province of Perugia, Umbria, to reunite with his mother. This is also where he met the love of his life, Assunta Bucciarelli. They married in 1952 and together shared 68 wonderful years until her passing on January 23, 2021. Salvatore truly missed Assunta every day. In 1956, in search of the American dream with his wife and eldest daughter, they made the transatlantic journey and settled in Dearborn, Michigan and later in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He started working in cement while pursuing his license to practice barbering in the USA. Salvatore’s ultimate dream was to open his own business. In 1961, after years of saving and with a loan from a friend, Bernardo Greco, he purchased land and built a shop in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, named Riverside Barber Shop and Beauty Salon. This is where he was most happy; developing relationships with his clients who loved him and referred to him as “Sam the barber”. Salvatore worked very hard to provide for his family. He then helped his brother and brother-in-law in their own pursuit of the American dream. Salvatore’s generosity and tenacity truly never ceased. Salvatore and Assunta retired in Northern Michigan and lastly, Williamston, Michigan. They spent their winters in Boynton Beach, Florida. While in Florida, they enjoyed over 20 years of playing cards, bocce ball, walking and fishing. Even in retirement, Salvatore was always available to help family, friends and neighbors. Salvatore was known by many as “Nonno”; which is the Italian name for grandfather. Even his grandchildren’s friends and others would refer to Salvatore as Nonno. Nonno was more than just a grandfather, he was someone the family sought for answers as they navigated through life, how to be a compassionate friend and how to instill the work ethic into any task at hand. Salvatore is survived by his daughters, Tina Giuliano Murphy, Pauline (Paul) Wolski, Elizabeth Giuliano, grandchildren Meghan (Reed) Lawrie, Maureen (Dr. Derek) DeVries, Melissa (Dr. Vincent) Hamo, Molly Murphy, Dr. Blair (Emily) Murphy II, Robert Wolski, Stephanie (David) Maniez, Trevor (fiancé Baylee) Rosekrans, Laura Rosekrans, Lindee Rosekrans, great-grandchildren, Brenden Hamo, Isabella Hamo, Masen Hamo, Vincent Hamo, Regan Lawrie, Joseph Hamo, Declan DeVries, Shane Lawrie, Mila Hannawa, Blair Hamo, Domenico DeVries, Marco Hannawa, Clair Lawrie, Sloane DeVries, Macie Hannawa, Madison Maniez, and Beau Rosekrans. Salvatore is also survived by his sisters, Giuditta Brugnini, Giuseppina Brugnini in Florence, Italy.
