Shirley Ann Gill was born on April 22, 1939. She grew up in Wyandotte in a small family, having just one brother, Hernry, who was 4 years older than Shirley.
Shirley's father died when she was just 5 years old, which was a terrible loss for her. The small family was very poor. Shirley's mother worked to make a living for them. When she was 18, she was thrown off a horse and broke her back. She spent 6 months in a body cast. This was a source of pain for the rest of her life. After recovering, Shirley went to work and supported her mother from then on.
She worked for 30 years as a secretary for the Ford Motor Company. After retiring from Ford, she worked for a Catholic organization. She taught Catechism at both Divine Child and St. Linus Parishes. She was also an Associate of the Felician Sisters in Livonia. She was also a volunteer and treasured member of Holy Trinity Apostolate for over 20 years.
Shirley was a talented seamstress. She was an amazing quilter and made dozens of quilts for herself and as gifts for friends. She was awarded 4 ribbons for her outstanding work at Quilt shows. She was always planning her next quilt. She made many for charities over the years.
Shirley moved into the Henry Ford Retirement community about 7 years ago. She loved living there and made many great friends. She always participated in as many activities as she could.
Memorial Mass Wednesday, September 17th, 10:30 am at the Chapel at Allegria Village, 15101 Ford Rd, Dearborn. Lunch will follow the Mass to celebrate Shirley's life.
Her friends will all miss her!
