Simplicia Anna Maria Boccarossa

March 2, 1940 — August 14, 2023

I am sure that when Simply reached heaven, God reached out his arms to her and she said..." please Sit down, and I will cook you dinner". A million things can be said about Simply but I know we can all agree on the fact that she cooked for everyone all the time. She loved to feed people and could have done it every day of her life. It all started as a very little girl in Castilielli, Italy. A city about 1 hour south of Rome. She was born on March 2, 1940, and was raised by Maria and Gennaro Notarantonio. She has 13 siblings, Vincenzo, Luisa, Domenica, Felice, Carmela, Giulia, Luigi, Elisa, Fausto, Rosa, Lucio, and Annetta. It was when Simply was just 5 years of age that she would be cooking and serving her family dinner. Her mother was paralyzed in one leg and there were many mouths to feed. Simply and her sisters would be cooking over an open fire. In today's world, we would never allow our little children to cook anything, let alone over an open flame. It was just daily life for her. She was an amazing Nonna to her 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. but was also known to all kids as Nonna. She would let the kids help her in the kitchen and show them how to cook. If parents couldn't get their kids to eat, they would send them to Simply's house. The kids ate everything for her. She would say, ” Give me the kids and leave." Hahaha. The kids wouldn't want to go back home! She was a natural. Another trait everyone knew about her was that she would only eat her own cooking. No restaurants for this lady. If she went to parties, she would always have a secret stash of a sandwich and also never left the house without a cookie in her purse. Those who loved her know this for a fact! One great story is the day we all went to the beach in Florida. She served up a full meal on a blanket on the sand. Soup in a big pot, big Fatina sandwiches, and pasta. The seagulls were in heaven! Needless to say, we moved our party to the covered picnic area. One seagull swiped down and took a sandwich out of our son's hand. Even the seagulls knew where to go to get the good food! She was so funny but very serious, tough but very gentle. They literally broke the mold when God made Simply. Never to be duplicated. She met her beloved Ugo on a blind date that her brother set up. The first interaction was when Ugo helped her out of the truck and she tripped right into his arms. It was literally love at first sight. They saw each other for 2 months and then Ugo made a voyage to America, where he survived the sinking of the Andrea Doria. While he was away for 4 years, they wrote letters to each other. He returned to Italy and they were married. It was meant to be that they be together. And together they were for 62 years. She is happiest now resting right next to him. That's what they loved the most. Never separated, very much in love. May they both rest peacefully. She was very Faithful to our Lord and always gave thanks for all that she had. She prayed daily to the Blessed Mother and loved her very much. A very simple life with the happiest of times, no fluff, “SIMPLY" love. Simplicia was the beloved wife of the late Ugo. Dearest mother of Enzo (Brenda) and Piero (Annette). Loving Nonna of Cloee (Mike) Kennedy, Lilee, and Demee, Natalie, Dominic, and Anthony. Great Nonna of Rex and Archer. Dear sister of Elisa, Fausto, Rosa, Annetta, the late Vincenzo, Luisa, Dominica, Felice, Carmela, Giulia, Luigi, and Lucio. Visitation Sunday 2-8 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home 25509 West Warren, Dearborn Heights. Instate Monday 9:30 am at Church of the Divine Child until the time of Mass at 10.
